Hip Stretching: Tips For Beginners

If you suffer from tight hips that affect your posture and ability to move freely and constantly feel tight, you need a combination of strength, mobility, and flexibility exercises.

In the video below, I discuss hip stretching during one of our yoga classes in Pacifica.

And how subtle adjustments in a stretch or movement can make a BIG difference.

The video shows a reclining figure four pose, also known as a reclining pigeon, and the multiple ways to adapt it and make it adjustable for all levels.

Sometimes we think we need to settle for feeling tight ALL the time. But tight hips contribute to EVERYTHING< including affecting the way you walk and sit

When your hips are tight, everything in your body adjusts to accommodate that tightness. Your walking, sitting and everyday movements become limited. This creates imbalances that go beyond tight hips. You start to feel tight and compressed in your back and shoulders. Walking imbalances affect your knees and ankles, making you more prone to injury.

A consistent hip stretching and mobility program helps alleviate pain and tightness in the body.

What we want to remember about building strength and flexibility in our hips is that a little bit of movement, stretching and strength work each day really does make a difference.
