Pain and Stretching
It's no secret that back pain is SUPER common.
In fact, 80% of people will experience a major back pain issue at some point in their lives.
And perhaps we all wake up with a bit of an ache in the morning,.
And that ache can turn into a nagging pain.
And then suddenly we have a “back issue”.
And it even happens to active people.
Why?
Why do SO many people, even those that exercise on a regular basis, have back pain?
What causes this discomfort, and how can we prevent it?
The truth is most back pain occurs due to a combination of factors.
Inactivity And Back Pain
One major contributor is a LACK of use or movement, leading to weakness and stiffness.
Our muscles and joints become stiff and inflexible when we don't stretch regularly.
This can lead to poor posture.
Limited range of motion.
And muscle imbalances that put extra strain on the back.
Over time, this tension can build up and cause pain, especially in the lower back area.
Additionally, a lack of stretching can cause decreased blood flow to the muscles, which means they are not getting enough nutrients and oxygen to function properly.
This can make our backs more prone to injury or spasms that contribute to back pain.
That is WHY regular stretching is essential for maintaining flexibility and reducing tension in the back muscles, which ultimately promotes healing and prevents future pain.
The Wrong Kind Of Movement
But then WHY do people who lift weights, take exercise classes, or practice yoga STILL have back pain?
I am not talking about our Elevate classes, which are designed to improve your strength and flexibility, but other activities that can put a lot of stress on an already achy back if not done intelligently.
There are a TON of activities that may be great for building strength and improving flexibility,.
But those same fabulous activities can also put a lot of stress on the back.
And sometimes, we hold stress and emotions in our backs, and if we don't take the time to stretch intelligently, this builds up, leading to pain and discomfort.
The excellent news is incorporating stretching into your daily routine can help prevent future pain and improve overall mobility.
Intelligent stretching integrated with the breath like we do in our Feel Better Stretch classes, is a SUPER effective way to relieve tension in the back.
