Best Exercises to Relieve Lower Back Pain

Lower back pain is a common issue for many people over 50. Lower back tightness and stiffness can be caused by various factors such as muscle weakness, poor posture, or simply the natural aging process.

But a consistent exercise routine can help SO much in improving tightness and building strength. Here are some super effective exercises that can help alleviate low back pain pain and improve overall strength and mobility.

In this short follow-along video, I explain four of our favorite beginner exercises designed to relieve lower back pain. Of course, checking with your medical professional is always advised, but a simple series of exercises for your lower back is often the first step to feeling better.

These exercises are easy to follow and can be done at home with minimal equipment. These beginner exercises can be adjusted and adapted to be more or less challenging.

1. Pelvic Tilts

Description: Pelvic tilts are a gentle way to mobilize the lower back and reduce tension. This exercise helps to strengthen the lower back muscles and improve flexibility.

2. Lateral Child’s Pose

Description: Lateral Child’s Pose stretches the lower back and side waist. A few minutes a day on each side helps to stretch and strengthen the spine, improving flexibility and relieving lower back tension.

3. Bird-Dog

Description: Bird-Dog is a great exercise for enhancing core stability and strengthening the lower back muscles. It also helps improve balance and coordination.

4. Bridge Pose

Description: Bridge pose strengthens the glutes and lower back, promoting better posture and relieving lower back pain.
