Why Integrate Strength With Yoga

The reason why we combine strength work with yoga is that we need to build BOTH strength and flexibility for our overall wellness.

Flexbility is not enough and many yoga classes focus on flexbility or the ability to hold a pose.

Strength and mobility work is essential for healthy joints and should be part of our overall practice.

We do a significant amount of strength work in our classes. For me, yoga is a tool we can use to feel better, and the path to feeling better begins with being strong and flexible.

In our classes, we don’t take a “lets do this pose” apporach. Instead, we integrating core and strength work into movment bring a whole new level of functionality.

The addition of strength and mobility work protects your joints, supports balance, and serves to help you move better beyond your yoga class.

Core conditioning and strength exercises woven into our class makes our classes, and your time spent in them, more aligned with the goal of feeling BETTER in the body.

A strong core stabilizes the spine, protects the back, and improves posture, which helps those of us working with the common challenges of growing older, which includes arthritis, bone loss and balance challenges.

Unlike traditional yoga, which focuses primarily on flexibility, this approach emphasizes practical strength, supporting bone density, muscle resilience, and joint stability.

Each class at The Elevate Practice integrates this strength-focused philosophy.
